Photogravure Workshop with Unai San Martin Feb 21-25, 2011
This was probably the first photogravure workshop held using a new gravure tissue since MacDermid ceased productuion of their Autotype carbon tissue. Regarding the new Phoenix Gravure tissue, Unai states "The coating is very even and it has a paper backing, like Autotype. It seems that it doesn't curl as much as Autotype, making the sensitizing easier. The exposure tests in the NUARC show a really nice and smooth separation between the values. I do think it has a longer scale than Autotype, (less contrast than G 35).
It etches nicely at baths higher than 41 baume, (41 baume being the highlight bath, as opposed to Autotype, where 40 and 39 are used).  A good etching sequence with Phoenix is 45, 43, 42, 41. The ease of use of Phoenix and its good results make it a great substitute to the extinct Autotype".
